Gunning Float

Joe has a camp in the Essex Marshes and is out there a lot when the rest of us are snug in our beds, or sitting around the table drinking a hot cup of coffee and reading the paper. He, and sometimes a buddy, makes the trip down river, and into the marsh, sculling silently up the creeks, stalking fowl, in the cold, in the wet, when most of us have put away our boats and only dream for next summer. He has seen the kind of wildlife most of us only read about because he is out there with it when we ain't.
He found this wonderful Whitney Sculling Float in a barn in Maine a few years ago, and has gone to great efforts to keep it just as it was originally designed and built - no fiberglass, no plywood when it makes better sense to use solid wood... He isn't really a purist, just thoughtful about how he approaches things; respectful.
We were honored to work on this Really Cool Gunning Float: according to Joe's experience and insight, we added a simple thwart, with a small storage box, and a backrest so the forward guy could rest his abs as he peeks over the gunwhale sneaking up on the prey...
Good Hunting and Keep Safe! Keep and eye on the marshes for Us!
