These unique details went into a lovely old house in Ipswich...
The Third Floor hadn't been used since the 19th Century!
(1) The stairwell was way not up to current codes, but because of the age of the house, the State allowed the remodel to keep the structural stairwell, and tweak the stairs by adding two treads and house the long tread overhang in the skirtboards. The Character of the house was retained! Not an easy climb, but that's life when upgrading an Early 19th Century home!
(2) These newell posts were bolted and Epoxied into the floor joists; the double return made the whole railing incredibly strong.
(3) These drawers extend under the roof next to the New Dormer. The Four Level Case went in during the rough framing stage, and blended with the plaster finished wall.
(4) This bathroom vanity was copied from a Fine Woodworking Article piece. It was an elegant touch to add a wash basin that has the feeling of a table, set under the roof eave in a small bathroom.
